The P.A.L.S. program is designed for K-12 local students (full-time or full-summer residents of the Roaring Fork Valley) who are currently studying an instrument (including voice) and wish to devote serious focus to this instrument during the summer months.

In an effort to keep the AMFS student body healthy and safe, P.A.L.S. students are asked to mask in lessons while not playing. P.A.L.S. teachers are required to be masked in lessons whenever they are not playing.

Instrument and Program Details

Voice students in P.A.L.S. must be entering 5th grade or up. Students entering 4th grade and younger are not eligible for voice lessons in P.A.L.S. GO BACK and select an alternate instrument!

Important Information for P.A.L.S. Guitar Students:

All P.A.L.S. guitar students receive 2.5 hours of private lessons, as guitar is a Half-Session II program at the AMFS. AMFS Guitar students/P.A.L.S. teachers are ONLY in residence July 25 through August 21. P.A.L.S. guitar lessons will only take place during this time.

If you currently study classical guitar through the AMFS's Lead Guitar program and would like to participate in the P.A.L.S. program this summer studying guitar, you have the option to study an alternate (secondary) instrument for the first four weeks of the program during Half-Session I, provided that you already have at least one school-year of experience on that secondary instrument (i.e. you play that instrument in band class or orchestra, you have taken piano lessons for at least one school-year, you sing in a school choir, etc.).

If you wish to select an alternate (secondary) instrument for the first four weeks of the P.A.L.S. program (before the guitar lessons can begin), make your selection below. If you do NOT wish to select an alternate instrument, leave this blank.

P.A.L.S. Division:

CMC Credit for P.A.L.S. High School Students

As a high school student, if accepted into P.A.L.S., you have the chance to earn college credit through CMC Aspen for your work in the P.A.L.S. program. In collaboration with the AMFS, CMC Aspen is once again offering a 1-credit course this summer, specifically for P.A.L.S. students.

It's always beneficial to earn as many college credits as possible while in high school, because entering undergrad with credit already completed can help with lots of things... waived course requirements (if the credits you have can be applied to degree requirements or general ed requirements), preferential placing in campus housing, ability to register for courses first and get into upperclassmen courses that are usually blocked for freshman with no existing credits, etc.

Musical Background

This is a VERY IMPORTANT part of your application! We use the info that you submit here to do the following:

Connect you with a teacher who can best meet your musical needs... right where you are right now... and help you reach your goals. We also want to try to connect you with a teacher who will mesh well with your personality, so help us get to know you!

Inform your teacher as to what they'll likely be doing during your lessons. Is there something you've been dying to learn on your instrument? Do you want to work only on more advanced instrument-specific technique? Do you want to learn lots of new repertoire? Do you want to practice being a duet partner? Do you want to prepare music for your upcoming All-State audition, or Blue Square/Black Diamond test in Beginning Strings, or a solo for the next Lead Guitar Showcase? What IS it that you're hoping to accomplish musically this summer?

Program Cost and Scholarship

The P.A.L.S. program is heavily subsidized by the AMFS and generous donors, and the actual program cost is more than $1,485 per student in P.A.L.S. and $1,285 for Little P.A.L.S. As such, every student accepted to P.A.L.S. and Little P.A.L.S. is receiving substantial financial support simply by being a participating student of this program. If you require additional financial support to participate in the P.A.L.S. program, you can apply for tuition scholarship.

Program Cost:

For students in grades 1-5: $175
For students in grades 6-12: $300

A limited number of scholarships are available.

Please note:

Scholarship is only available to students who attended school in the Roaring Fork Valley during the 2021-2022 school year AND who live in the Roaring Fork Valley on a full-time basis.
In order to receive a full or partial scholarship, students must be in good standing with the Aspen Music Festival and School and not have an outstanding balance from participation in any prior AMFS programs.
Students who are currently seniors in high school and will have graduated by the start of the 2022 P.A.L.S. program are only eligible for scholarship in P.A.L.S. if they are entering college in the fall of the 2021-2022 school year as an accepted music major or minor.
Because the P.A.L.S. program has become so popular, and because we want to serve as many students as possible through participation in P.A.L.S. this summer, we are not able to offer full scholarships to all deserving students. Scholarship priority will go to students who demonstrate significant financial need.
