Important Information for Little P.A.L.S. Guitar Students

P.A.L.S. teachers for guitar are ONLY in residence July 27 through August 23, as guitar is a second-session program at the AMFS. The 5 half-hour Little P.A.L.S. guitar lessons will only take place during this time period.

Important Information for P.A.L.S. Guitar Students:

All P.A.L.S. guitar students receive 2.5 hours of private lessons, as guitar is a Half-Session II program at the AMFS and teachers are only in residence July 27 through August 23. P.A.L.S. guitar lessons will only take place during this time period.

If you currently study classical guitar through the AMFS's Lead Guitar program and would like to participate in the P.A.L.S. program this summer studying guitar, you have the option to study an alternate (secondary) instrument for the first four weeks of the program during Half-Session I, provided that you already have at least one school-year of experience on that secondary instrument (i.e. you play that instrument in band class or orchestra, you have taken piano lessons for at least one school-year, you sing in a school choir, etc.).

If you wish to select an alternate (secondary) instrument for the first four weeks of the P.A.L.S. program (before the guitar lessons can begin), make your selection below. If you do NOT wish to select an alternate instrument, choose "None."

P.A.L.S. is designed to give you a connective experience to an AMFS musician; however, opportunities to maintain study with a private teacher is beneficial. This option is only available to AMFS AfterWorks students taking consistent private lessons with a Beginning Strings, Chamber Music Lab, or Lead Guitar teacher and is dependent on teacher availability.

Still Want to Study Two Different Instruments?
If you play two different instruments and wish to study both during the summer, select one instrument as your P.A.L.S. focus (primary instrument) and then purchase additional lessons through the Festival Lessons program for your secondary instrument.

Please note: P.A.L.S. and Little P.A.L.S. lessons can only be taken for your focus (primary) instrument.

P.A.L.S. Division:

Program Locations & Scheduling Options:

At the Aspen Music Festival and School – Bucksbaum Campus (225 Music School Rd., Aspen, CO 81611)
- Lessons held on the AMFS campus will be scheduled on dates/times that work for you and your P.A.L.S. teacher from June 29 – August 23. Even better… see if you can schedule lessons and catch a concert together!
At Glenwood Music (3102 Blake Ave D, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601) or alternate Glenwood Springs location
- Lessons and P.A.L.S. activities held on specific Mondays throughout the summer:
  - Mondays: July 6, 13, 20 & 27; August 3 & 10
  - Lesson times to be determined, but scheduled between 10am - 5pm
  - Students must commit to in-person lessons on at least 4 of the above Mondays. Some flexibility may be possible based on AMFS musician schedules.

Musical Background

Now for the fun part! We will use the following information to:

Connect you with a teacher who can best meet your musical needs... right where you are right now... and help you reach your goals. We also want to try to connect you with a teacher who will mesh well with your personality, so help us get to know you!

Inform your teacher as to what they'll likely be doing during your lessons. Is there something you've been dying to learn on your instrument? Do you want to work only on more advanced instrument-specific technique? Do you want to learn lots of new repertoire? Do you want to practice being a duet partner? Do you want to prepare music for your upcoming All-State audition, or Blue Square/Black Diamond test in Beginning Strings, or a solo for the next Lead Guitar Showcase? What is it that you're hoping to accomplish musically this summer?

You can write a lot, or you can write a little... It's up to you to determine what we should know about you! We'll share this info with your P.A.L.S. teacher this summer.

Program Cost and Scholarship

The P.A.L.S. program is heavily subsidized by the AMFS and generous donors (thank you, donors!), and the actual program cost is more than $1,485 per student in P.A.L.S. and $1,285 for Little P.A.L.S. As such, every student accepted to the program is already receiving substantial financial support. If you require additional financial support to participate, you can apply for tuition scholarship. A limited number of scholarships are available.
